Would you like to find out more about the local landscape and history? Reimagining British Waste Landscapes is a research project run by Dr Jonathan Gardner at the Edinburgh College of Art which investigates how waste materials have been used to create new landscapes since the Industrial Revolution and examines how these places are used and valued today.
As part of Dr Gardner’s research he has mapped the changes to the area around Gypsy Brae and General’s Rock Beach/Granton Beach/Royston Beach. These maps are based on old OS maps, satellite imagery and other sources.
Take a look at the images below and see what materials have been used where you live.
If you would like to find out more about the project you can head along to Dr Gardner’s website, the Reimagining British Wastelands twitter page (@wastelandscapes) or email him at jonathan.gardner@ed.ac.uk
