Where do you begin when attempting to construct an ancient logboat? 🚣‍♀️

The History group at granton:hub, The School of Ancient Crafts and a group of volunteers have not only began but nearly completed the task of constructing an Iron Age logboat using only the tools that would have been available in the Iron Age.

Through this process of experimental archeology the team can begin to understand more about our ancestors and the expertise they possessed to create these logboats thousands of years ago.

The process has taken nearly 2 years so far and the whole process has been documented in the video below.

Due to the pandemic the construction of the logboat has been slowed down. However, at granton:hub we hope to be able to finish and launch the boat later this year for its journey across the Forth.
