In December, our new community cafe will be full of more than soups, wraps, pizza, teas and coffees, cakes and snacks. The cozy cafe space will also be home to unique, local gifts in time for the Christmas shopping season. Stop by the Christmas Pop-Up Shop when the cafe is open on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10am to 2pm for:
- Herbal remedies and teas from Grass Roots Remedies
- Baked goods from the Granton Garden Bakery
- Artwork, prints and crafts from local artists
The community cafe: “A space for all”

Cafe manager and cook Lisa Houston has been creating a variety of tasty meals and snacks using locally sourced ingredients where possible, including herbs from the Hub’s garden and breads from the Granton Garden Bakery. She’s not bragging when she says “I make the best soup”: it’s a fact. Better yet, on Saturdays, that soup is offered on a pay what you feel basis.
Lisa recently returned to Scotland after 20 years in Thailand where she worked on community farms and did human rights work with displaced people from Burma. She helped get the cafe up and running and sees it as a place for poeple to meet and chat in a comfortable space. Those words are echoed by regular customer Hugh who says he comes for the good food and good company.
“It’s a space for all,” Lisa says, pointing to the affordable prices and sharing shelves that offer free grocery items to anyone who wants them.
Check out the menu and keep in mind that takeaway is available too.
