Painting for Pleasure weekend

The new Painting for Pleasure weekend art course is tutored by local Granton Artist Gareth Hutchison. You can choose to attend both days or one of either weekend days.

The weekend art course is for adults of all ages and abilities. From beginners to art enthusiasts interested to learn new or existing skills in painting & drawing. Practice at your own leisure or just relax in a creative and friendly space. The Painting for Pleasure weekend will help you get started, giving time and space to develop your creative talent and support your painting projects.

Start Date: 24th – 25th June 2017 – 2 day weekend course.

Painting for Pleasure Day 1. Saturday 24th June, 10am – 4.30pm Tutored – Full Price: £14 Concessions: 20% off (£11.20)* (Type ‘CONCESSION’ when purchasing, concession only applies to Day1).

Painting for Pleasure Day 2. Open Studio Practice. Sunday 25th June, 10am – 5pm. Untutored with casual support – Price: £7

Free coffee & Tea is provided, but please bring packed lunch

Pallet building workshop

Join Mo from the The Edinburgh Tool Library and Granton:hub community garden volunteers to learn the art of pallet building at Madelvic House on Wednesday (14 June) 10am-1pm.

This is a FREE event that will teach you the tools of the trade – all materials and caffeine fixes provided! Under Mo’s guidance you will help create pallet raised beds for the community garden, which will go on show as part of the Power of Food Festival at granton:hub this weekend.

This is a free event but please let us know if you plan on coming along, book via eventbrite

Power of Food Festival 17-18 June

granton:hub will be joining 28 other community gardens across the city to celebrate community food growing.
We are open from 12 – 3pm on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 June; and have plenty of gardening activities planned, a photography exhibition, ‘Cars of the Future‘ art exhibition by Granton Primary School; and free tea, coffee and soup.
We would really appreciate donations of plants for the garden, so if you have any you would like to contribute please bring them along!
We are also using our Power of Food event to participate in The Great Get Together, and will be one of over 100,000 community get-togethers happening nationwide.
Don’t forget, there’s also weekly gardening drop in sessions until the end of June – every Wednesday between 10am – 1pm.

Tuesday art club

The granton:hub Tuesday Art Club in painting & drawing is tutored by local Granton artist Gareth Hutchison. The course starts 6-29 June (1 – 3pm) for four weeks per session.

You can also attend by dropping into individual classes – Price: £7 per class or £5 for Concession. (Cash only)

The Tuesday afternoon Art Club is designed for adults of all ages and abilities. For beginners or art enthusiasts interested to learn new or existing skills in painting & drawing. Practice at your own leisure or just relax in a creative and friendly space. The art club will help you get started and develop your creative talent and art projects. No previous experience necessary.

Food festival 17-18 June

We are excited to announce that we will be participating in this year’s Power of Food Festival, on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th June!
The festival showcases community food growing around Edinburgh, and granton:hub is one of 29 community gardens taking part in the 2017 event.
We have a number of activities planned, including planting a new vertical vegetable wall, constructing raised planting beds; and the Garden Landscapes photography exhibition, including photos from Granton Castle Walled Garden and other local photographers.
There will also be a play area/ sand pit for the children, and free tea, coffee and soup.
You can find out more about the Power of Food festival and all the other community gardens taking part on their website.
granton:hub is Venue 20 and we will be open from 12 – 3pm on both days.We look forward to seeing you then!

upcoming craft classes

Join local artist Cassandra Barron to ‘Print, Make & Create’ on Friday 2 June, 2-4pm (suitable for kids)

And learn the art of decorative bookbinding resulting in a finished, leather-bound book at the end of each class. Classes held on Monday 5 June, 6.30-8.30pm: Ribbon stitch and Monday 12 June, 6.30-8.30pm: Cross stitch (adults only)
